ipod classic 80 gb doesn't load songs

Hi,

i'm an italian guy and I have an old ipod classic 80 gb, but it was held with care.

i tried to upload songs, about 1000 (i was first shure they were totally less then 60 gb) but at the 800th it stops and my computer (late 2015) with itunes crashes.

Do you know if the problem is caused by my computer or by the age of the ipod due to the discontinued model?

Thanks

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9), no ret. display macbook pro 13 2013

Try the DFU restore or reformat methods to release the currently pending sectors so they become added to the reallocation list. 5,000 is quite a chunk but the iPod has over 16,000 block set aside for this so there is a chance you can get the device back to a stable position. If/when you can get the pendings cleared try the break-up large transfers method and check the stats periodically. Start over if there are new pendings.

Going white may be part of the restore process. If you have a Mac you could try asking a Windows owning friend to restore the device and pass it back. Using the other platform sometimes does a better job of rebuilding the file system on the device and releasing the pending sectors. If they won't clear, or the numbers just go on increasing, then that would suggest that it is time for a new drive.
